Facebook Marketing has almost become standard with most businesses
these days. More and more people are beginning to understand the huge potential
of advertising on such a large social network. But there is a right way and a
wrong way to go about it. In this article I want to highlight some of the
biggest mistakes people make when building a Facebook Fan Page, and I want to
show you how you can avoid the same mistakes.
I know you have experienced this before..…you
see a link to a Facebook page and you look at the name of the page and yet you
have no idea what it’s all about. I see it all the time on Facebook. Just
because the initials of your business is JKS that does not mean you should name
your page JKS.
When you are starting your page no one
knows you. No one knows your products or services so no one knows what JKS
stands for. It means something to you but it means nothing to the rest of us.
Therefore when creating your Facebook page you should try to spell everything
out clearly.
If your business is Jane’s Knitting
Solutions then don’t abbreviate it to JKS, call your page Jane's Knitting Solutions.
That way there is no ambiguity, as soon as a visitor sees your page they know
that it is something to do with knitting. Also be sure to add a cover image
that reflects what you do or get a company logo.
First impressions really do count; and
because we are all subject to so much content on Facebook it is little wonder
that we spend a great deal of our time scrolling. This habit gives us page
owners very little time to attract and hold the attention of our visitors.
Therefore be sure to clearly define what your page is all about. Choose a cover
image that reflects your niche. Make your posts relevant to your area of expertise
and write a clear and accurate description of your page.
By now I’m sure you will have heard many
people complaining that they are no longer reaching as many people with their
Facebook page posts as before. It is now Facebook's intention to reward the
pages with the best engagement with the best engagement. In other words if you
can increase the amount of comments likes and shares to your posts, Facebook
will show your posts to more of your fans.
One way to do this is to SHARE your posts.
Now this does not mean random sharing on your timeline and on friend’s
timelines. It means sharing to targeted audiences. If you post about stamps,
join a group about stamp collecting and contribute to that group in a
meaningful way with relevant useful posts from your page. This way you get to
reach more people and you are offering value to those people.
This is goes back to the previous point about
sharing quality relevant posts. There is no point sharing a post on the
benefits of going to church regularly in a group for atheists. You must give
your audience what THEY want to see. Not what YOU want to show them. Remember it’s
not all about you, it’s all about THEM!
LIKES do not put money in the bank! I will
say that again in case it did not sink in the first time. LIKES do not put
money in the bank!
OK; now that we are clear on that I will
tell you what does put money in the bank. ENGAGEMENT!
People will not buy from you because your
page has thousands of LIKES. They will buy from you because you have developed
a rapport with them, gained their trust and helped them solve a problem. So
your time is better spent creating posts that people want to comment on, LIKE
and Share rather than trying to gain thousands of page LIKES.
Taking advantage of these 5 Facebook fan page tips will help
you to launch your business in a professional way and have your visitors
returning to your page over and over again.

A useful and timely post. I eventually had to delete my original Fan Page because I had been advised to buy Likes when I launched the Page. That lead to no engagement and so no one was seeing my posts. I'm planning on starting an new Page soon and I'll be keeping these points in mind when I do.
ReplyDeleteHi David. Unfortunately a lot of people have been given that same bad advice and then found their page either blocked or as you said without engagement. I am sorry you had to learn the hard way. Thanks for commenting and please let me know when you launch your new page , I will be sure to stop by and Share some "Like Luv" .
